March marks the beginning of spring. A month that widely across the globe means blossoming flowers, sunny days and warm weather. Those first sunny days after a long winter when we are finally able to sit outside while enjoying a cup of coffee. I remember the sidewalks of London filled with small tables outside the establishments all over Old Brompton rd. and Mount Street, oh how I miss that. It was always that time of the year when we could finally leave the house wearing a sweater and perhaps just a gilet over it, and of course the after-university hangs in Hyde Park with friends while grabbing a bite at the serpentine. Or walking out of your flat in Monaco and strolling down to the Boulevard des Moulins to enjoy a pot of fresh tea at Cova, while the kids enjoy their playtime at the Munchkins club. I believe, everywhere in the world, it is that time of the year that makes daily tasks a tad more enjoyable, the time that fills people with energy as the days are longer and waking up and going home from work when it is still light outside invigorates individuals with new possibilities both professionally and emotionally. Especially true this year since winter was particularly sad and miserable. The perfect time for any big city getaways – the air is still fresh enough and the sun is already warming the streets for long sightseeing walks. It is almost the dream time for any trips to Rome, Prague or Paris. Right after the Fashion week craziness it is the perfect time to get a great deal at a reputable hotel and indulge in some shopping, while the children enjoy their half-term vacation.

Spring is also that time of the year that feels like you are about to cross the finish line, I don’t know whether we are programed this way as a result of our academic calendars, or that the fiscal year usually ends in April, who knows… I can only say that it is that joyous time that feels like your ‘almost there’ but not yet. It is the time university students are just about to take their exams, but somehow the sunny weather and the promise of summer is motivating, or school kids in the middle of April usually have just returned to school from their spring break and are on the finish line before the long-awaited summer full of travel, splashing on the beach, late nights and hanging out with friends and family. Spring is a promising time for everyone, whether it is the possibility for a banker or lawyer to grab his/her lunch break on a bench soaking up the sun, or joining friends for a pint at an outdoor pub after work (I used to love those in London), even for those not going away for long trips, spring still feels like a finish line before summer, if only for those weekends away in the country side, or by the beach depending on where you live, which one rarely takes in the fall or winter. Spring is like the end of reality and the beginning of something you know won’t last long, so you must savor every moment. Spring months are those of anticipation, but it is as they say it is not always the result, it is often the chase. Spring is the chase of summer.
